| So, Spider and I are trying our darndest to move to Canada. I was wondering if any of our canadian friends here have immigrated from elsewhere and what it entailed to get there. Oh, and we're getting married and all that jazz. Apparently putting on the application, "single, but i like this person ALOT, can they come?" doesn't quite cut it for immigration services. Assholes. | |

| Hmmm British Columbia... Nice mountains, Okanogan valley is really nice, beautiful warm lakes. But high prices for housing in the Vancouver area, lots of taxes.
Ontario..shitty winters, lots of taxes, lots of smog in Toronto!!! Wasaga Beach is amazing, cottage country is nice too, warm lakes too.
Yes you will go to Calgary when your desperate for a job, lowest taxes in the country, most sunny days per calender year, mountains are beautiful, but it fuckin snows in May (it snowed 3 days ago) and there are no nice lakes out here that you can swim in that are not fed by glacier water (southern Alberta). Some of the best trout fishing too, no bass tho...

| Government controlled medical fields, medical professionals are held in the same regard as Jiffy Lube goobers are here. They haven't evolved beyond leeches and caster oil. They're trolls at best. Their cough Navy sucks, you can major in seal clubbing, and fine dining???? They even farked up bacon! Your gifts will not be appreciated up there. | |

| Well, I don't plan on serving in the Navy -- I also don't see Canada suddenly decide to invade all the countries it doesn't like wasting trillions of dollars. So, no problems there.
The medical field up there has follies just like here. Yes it does take forever to see a doctor for a cold sometimes, but that's general practices. I've been talking to specialists in several places to see what my options would be in comparison to here. It's about the same wait period for the tests I need and doctors appts. I won't be insurable here for much longer, so, I do need to move because of medical reasons actually. Although Obamas heavily unpopular medical bill does effect many people very poorly, it was actually helping me. Part of the bill was to retract "black listing" by insurance companies for people who.. ya know.. need medical help. Insurance companies told me to go fuck myself before that bill came around because they knew I'd be using tons of their money. If that bill gets repealed, which I'm thinking it will be, I need to live in a country where I won't rack up hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills. That happens here in the US all the time. My uncle being on of them... he's still battling in court rooms about 600,000 heart transplant bill because he was declared ineligible for insurance and dropped by his policy holders a few months before he had his procedure and has no way of paying this money back.
As far as food, elk and lobster are plentiful up there. If you've never had elk -- it's the TASTIEST god damn animal on the planet. It makes filet mignon look like dollar menu at mcdonalds. Marc and I plan on hunting up there. Also great fishing. The land is cheaper, at least cheaper in comparison to land we're looking at here in Maryland. For the same price I get 3x the acreage and 25% more house.
Ecology and science are held in higher regard up there than down here. There economy is doing better, only slightly, but still better than here, and there are plenty of ecology and forestry jobs.
_____
Yeah, the two options for our presidency absolutely make my blood curdle. So, Marc and I have decided to say Fuckit.

Health problems; I had no idea. You have my best wishes on this front. My original jabs at their medical field were because you are, or aspiring to be, a medical professional. Science - held in high esteem up there? Do they get shoe sponsorships? Reality television and our infatuation with athletes and celebrities are national embarassments. Forestry - Marc's field? Very cool. The pay (here) may not be great but being a cube jockey is pretty dry stuff. Food - I would love to try their elk and what-not, but their bacon is still a farkin' joke. Presidents - I purge from both ends when I think about it.

| Well, to have my tonsils removed a few years ago; Numerous doctor and specialist appointments beforehand. When they decided to pull 'em, I was put on a waiting list. A 6 month waiting list. I then strongly suggested that I get expedited as i'm slowly starving to death. I had lost around 20 pounds an was around 130ish. A week or so later I get a letter stating i'm going under the knife the next week.
So. Overnight in a hospital (they were kind enough to put me in an empty pediatrics wing with student nurses) and lots of pain killers cost me a total of around $10.
Missed 2 weeks of work though. |
