| My amd 5000+ motherboard is slowly going, so I've been watching prices for a while.
Everything I was intending to get ended up being on sale so I finally bit the bullet:
- AMD Phenom x4 965 - MSI 970A-G46 - 8 GB DDR3 (bundled with the motherboard) - Azza Orion 202EVO Black case
Plus a better heatsink, DVD drive and a few odds and ends.
I'll be reusing my existing power supply, hard drives and video card. |

| well, your new one trumps mine.
The old AMD 5000+ BE lasted me for 4 and a half years (i found the shipping statement today) so this one will probably do just as long.
Total investment is a few dollars less than $400. In a year or so, i'll get whatever the second best nvidia is at the time.
I don't know how the memory works with the Phenom cores, but in Athlon's it was a number based off of the multiplier and bus speed. To get the memory at 800mhz, i had to overclock it a whopping 200mhz to 2.8. |

There was a mobo setting I had to change for mine, but I can't remember what it was. I'll check with I get home. For my HTPC/Gaming Rig, I currently run: Phenom 9600 2.3 ghz quad-core CORSAIR XMS2 4GB DDR2 @ 1066 mhz MSI K9A2 Platinum Motherboard MSI Radeon HD 4890-T2D1G OC OCZ Vertex 3 SSD | |

| Ironically my modem died Saturday evening, so now I won't have any gaming goodness for a few days. |

no, believe it or not, but "DSL Box" and "Cable Box" are incorrect terms... I have a 20 meg cable line. |
