I am going to assume he is at the local cinema watching the newest Dark Night movie. I fully expect him to have his girlfriend's legs about shoulder height later tonight.

He is my son after all.

His old man gave him $$$ for his birthday. I am sure he will use it to buy worthless Apple products.

Happy Birthday kid.

Now stop slacking off and get your ass back on the server!

You know, back when I was your age, we knew the meaning of gaming. If you wanted to game you were going to have to turn off your Facts of Life (ah, Jo, we could have been great...) hop your acid washed, fluorescent, mullted ass on your BMX and ride down to the arcade next to the Hallmark store. Laugh at the lamers with the trapper keeper reading their Dragon's Lair walkthrough, change your dollars, and get down to business. Minimum wage was $3.35/hr then, so each hour at your dishwashing job gave you around 10 quarters after taxes. You could burn through it quick with adrenaline junkie games like Tempest, or you could go slower with strategy games like Joust or Stargate. Sure we had computer games on the new PC in the library at school, but reading that you were eaten by a grue after 30 minutes of typing stuff like "Throw goddamned broken clockwork canary at thief and run" is not as exciting as it might sound. Now when that rich kid down the street got a Colecovison, man, that was something. We would... Oh, you have to go? Um, ok... thanks for coming to visit, you'll bring the grandkids by next week right? Sure you don't want to stay? Tonight they're giving us rice pudding and then its a Bonkers tournament for board game night...No? Ok, just as well, I think its time for my nap so I'm awake for the Riptide marathon on TNT. Now there was some good TV, they had babes, and Joe Penny, and a robot and...

oh, right, sorry.

Happy Birthday mini-sen but now you are an adult so I will have to call you mini-sen, you're still your father's son.

BTW Alpa-1, when you use "You know, back when I was your age.." in any conversation, it is a prelude to senility... (pun intended)

I'm sincerely grateful that neither of my parents wanted to know how well versed I was in the sexual arts.

aw man, I was hoping to type out my sexual memoirs of my glorious younger years here. But, as to not give oddbird nightmares, and possible new restrictions on his daughter, i shall resist. Smile

Well the poor kid already has it hard enough as it is. Every three weeks or so she'll get some lecture out of the blue about something that got in my head from work or somewhere: "Hey pumpkin, you know why people use drugs? Because its damn pleasurable when they do, that's why. But let daddy tell you about prescription opiates and why there's such a thing as maintenance level methadone" or "Listen, let me tell you how theres going to be times when its going to seem like the best idea in the world E-V-E-R to have sex and why thats actually the absolute worst time to have it. See there's this devious trick mother nature plays called Ovulation..."

And that's just the start of why she has it rough: Her girlfriends' parents and I cross check stories of what they tell us. She's surrounded by neighbors that are home during the day that keep an eye on her. I have the freedom to drop in on the house, or whereever she says she is, whenever, and I make a point of doing so randomly. She could easily slip of the house at night without waking me, but getting back in without setting off the dog is another thing. Her grades are on the web by individual assignment. If she's late or absent for a class I get a notice to my email, home phone and my cell. Excused absences are on the web. I have her Facebook and email passwords. The home router records where she goes on the web, and how late her phone is active, as does the service provider if she turns off wifi. The phone's numbers in and out are available on the web. Her phone has a GPS tracker accessible to me on the web. I'm good with research and information is available on her friends and what they do.

Daughters are cursed and blessed by the fact that most men by the time they're in their forties can spot an up and coming drunk/wife beater/methhead/loser at a glance and can quote by chapter and citation how, when and why its going to happen, and we've been through enough shit to not be afraid to take a virtual or real asskicking if we get done something we think needs to be done.

At this point in my life there's few men that intimidate me. None of them were born during the Clinton administration.

OTOH, I'm told that I look a little threatening. I personally don't see it.

She's still going to get away with stuff (or sometimes be allowed to think she has) I wouldn't be raising her right if she didn't. She's just going to have to work harder to do it. If I do my job right, by the time she's able to do whatever she wants easily, she'll be ready to handle what comes of it on her own.

For now though, Harley's memoirs would just trigger next weeks extended out of the blue lecture.

Bath salts man, farkin' "bath salts". And riding with friends who get their licenses before her; cell phones, a car full of nattering teenagers.
