Super high ping when first logging on

I'm experiencing super high pings when first logging onto the server. This has happened before. Occurs when I reinstall windows. Running Win7 x64. Forgot how I fixed this last time. Anyone have suggestions?

Already updated drivers, turned off firewalls, run as admin, run in xp compatibility, installed XP mode for windows 7 - still doesn't work.

I get it too. Specifically when I don't put my AVG in gaming mode. It settles out within 20 seconds.

Don't really need to run in xp compat mode..

For now, I'm just switching back to my old hdd to play. It takes about 5 minutes for me to just log onto the server otherwise. I'll get all the way up to 100% loading and it stalls. Probably going to image my old drive onto the new one since I can't figure out what is causing the issue.

^^I've gotten that stalling error once in a while as well. Have no idea what would cause it, but it eventually goes away. I'm under the impression that at least for me it was a connectivity issue. I'd either try a "reconnect" or "vid_restart" in the console, and if those didn't work I'd just call it a day

GIANT FAIL. Guess I'll just tough it out for now. If I ever come across a fix I'll post it for future records

have you made any changes to your router settings latley? I think I had a similar problem, and i think if was caused when I tried to make my connection faster.
